How to read the sun in Singapore
In Singapore the sun rises within 23° of due east and sets within 23° of due west all year, so east-facing units get morning sun and west-facing units get afternoon sun every day. What changes is which side of the sky it crosses: north of overhead from 24 Mar to 19 Sep, south of overhead otherwise. That is why north and south facings swap between full-day sun and none.
The clock
Across 2026, sunrise falls between 06:47 and 07:16, sunset between 18:51 and 19:21, and the day is 12h 03m to 12h 12m long. Solar noon comes around 12:49–13:18, an hour later than the clock’s twelve, so the “afternoon sun” buyers worry about is the sun after two or three o’clock.
What the tool measures
For the facing you choose, it counts the minutes the sun is both above the horizon and in front of the wall (within 90° of the direction it faces), splits them either side of solar noon, and separates the low sun, no more than 45° up, that reaches deep past a window from the high sun that overhangs mostly cut. The yearly figure counts the days with at least an hour of direct sun between 2pm and sunset: the Singapore “west sun”.
What the figures cannot see
Anything between the sun and the wall. A neighbouring tower, a hill or the unit’s own balcony can shade a window the model calls lit, and cloud cuts Singapore’s direct sun a great deal. Read the figures as the ceiling on exposure. The 3D map helps with the neighbours: it draws the buildings around the pin and the shadows they throw on the ground at the time you choose, from OpenStreetMap heights, so a block with no recorded height looks lower than it is. A project’s facing also varies stack by stack; confirm the stack on the site plan, or take a phone compass to the window at a viewing.
Direct sun by facing, 2026
Computed for Singapore (1.35°N, 103.82°E); every condo is within a few minutes of these. Afternoon-sun days have at least an hour of direct sun between 2pm and sunset.

Frequently asked questions
Which facing gets the west sun in Singapore?
West-facing units take the afternoon sun every day: in 2026 a west-facing wall in Singapore is in direct sun on 365 of 365 afternoons, south-west on 365 and north-west on 365. East-, north-east- and south-east-facing walls take none (0 days). North- and south-facing walls take it for about half the year each: north 22 Mar – 21 Sep (184 days), south 20 Sep – 23 Mar (over the year end) (185 days). "Afternoon sun" here means at least 60 minutes of direct sun between 2pm and sunset.
When is the sun on the north side in Singapore?
At Singapore's latitude (about 1.4°N) the noon sun stands north of overhead from 24 Mar to 19 Sep 2026, and south of overhead for the rest of the year. A north-facing unit gets its direct sun inside that window and a south-facing unit outside it. East and west facings are not affected: every sunrise of the year is within 23° of due east and every sunset within 23° of due west.
What time does the sun rise and set in Singapore?
Across 2026, sunrise in Singapore falls between 06:47 (22 Oct) and 07:16 (29 Jan), and sunset between 18:51 (25 Oct) and 19:21 (10 Feb). Day length only varies from 12h 03m to 12h 12m. Solar noon, when the sun is highest, comes between 12:49 and 13:18: Singapore's clock runs about an hour ahead of its sun, so "afternoon sun" starts later than 12 o'clock.
How high does the sun get in Singapore?
At solar noon the sun is between 65° and 90° above the horizon: almost directly overhead around the equinoxes, and lowest at the solstices (68° to the north on 21 Jun, 65° to the south on 21 Dec). The low sun that reaches deep into a room is therefore an early-morning and late-afternoon matter, from the east and west sides, all year round.
Does the calculator account for the block next door?
The hours do not; the map shows it. The figures give sun direction and height only, from the location's coordinates, so they cannot tell whether a neighbouring tower, a hill or the unit's own balcony overhang shades a window at a given hour, and they do not model cloud cover, which cuts Singapore's direct sun considerably. The 3D map draws the buildings around the pin and the shadows they throw on the ground at the chosen time, from OpenStreetMap footprints and heights, so you can see when a neighbour's shadow reaches a block. A building with no recorded height is drawn low, and a project not yet built is not drawn. Read the hours as the ceiling on exposure, and check the facing of the specific stack on the site plan: a project's "facing" varies stack by stack.
How accurate are the times and angles?
Sun positions use the NOAA Solar Calculator algorithm with atmospheric refraction, accurate to about a minute on sunrise and sunset and a fraction of a degree on direction. All times are Singapore time (UTC+8). Condo locations come from the OneMap geocode of the project's address; a pinned point is exact to where you click.
